Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister has claimed the Rwanda bill is causing asylum seekers to flock into the Republic of Ireland.

The Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Act 2024, passed on Tuesday, is Rishi Sunak’s controversial deportation plan which will send illegal asylum seekers to the African country if they enter the UK.

While no planes have currently been sent to Rwanda, Number 10 announced that the first flight has been ‘booked.'

Michael Martin, the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, said the policy’s deterrence is forcing asylum seekers into Ireland as they are “fearful” of staying in the UK.

TalkTV’s Jake Berry is joined by former Labour adviser Stella Tsantekidou and political journalist Zoë Grünewald, to discuss the effectiveness of the Rwanda bill.
