The first C-Class ever released was the W201
The W201 is the internal designation for the Mercedes 190 series sedans. These cars were Mercedes’ first compact cars and were produced from 1982 to 1993. They were entry-level luxury cars that had no predecessors.
The first models of the W201 series were the 190 and the 190E. The cars came with an angular design that made other vehicles from that era look outdated. The 190, which was affectionately called Baby Benz, had a carburetor system, while the 190E had a fuel injection system that gave it more power. These cars were gasoline powered and had 4-cylinder engines.
Diesel-powered 190s were also produced starting with the 190D. The diesel engines used sound-deadening panels and insulation which made them emit only half the noise of a comparable engine.

Following on from their success, the W202 was then introduced.
The W202 is the internal designation for the entry-level model of the C Class. It replaced the 190 series in May 1993 and production continued until July 2000. The C Class has the same elegant boxing styling as the 190 series.
The C Class debuted with three models featuring a multi-valve engine. These are the C180 which was equipped with a 1.8 liter 120hp engine, the C200 which was equipped with a 2 liter 134hp engine, and the C220 which was equipped with a 2.2liter 148hp engine. The C230 replaced C220 in 1997. It is enlarged to 2.3 liters but has the same power output as the C220. It accelerates from 0 to 62 miles in 10.5 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 130mph.

The new millennium then brought us the W203
The W203 is the internal designation for the second generation of the Mercedes C Class. The cars were produced between 2000 and 2007. These were compact executive cars that included a 4-door sedan, 5-door station wagon, and 3-door hatchback coupe.
The W203 sedan was fitted with inline 4 and V6 petrol engines and in-line 4 and inline 5 diesel engines. The entire sedan range featured six-speed manual gearboxes.
The popular C230 Kompressor is the US model of the coupe variant of the W203. It features a 2.3 liter supercharged in-line four which produces 192 hp. While the sedan and wagon had the traditional Mercedes horizontal grille, the coupe had a star grille in the front.

With the third generation of the Mercedes Benz C Class came the W204
These cars were produced from 2007 up to 2014. They also came in sedan, station wagon, and coupe body styles.
Unlike the W203 C Class that were all rear-wheel drives, the W204 C Class came in rear-wheel and all-wheel drive models. Over 2.4 million of the W204 C Class cars were sold, making it one of Mercedes’ best selling cars. Popular W204 C Class include the C250, C300, and C350.
The C250 comes with a 1.8 liter turbo charged inline4 engine with a 7 speed automatic transmission which produces 201 horsepower. The C300 comes with a 3.0 liter V6 engine, and it was widely regarded as a premium entry-level luxury car.
The C350 is basically a C300 with more muscle. It also comes with a V6 engine but a larger 3.5 liter version that produces 302 hp. The W204 cars received a facelift in 2010 which gave them refreshed looks, cleaner interior, and revised engine range.

Until recently, we had the W205 C Class series.
The W205 is the internal designation of the fourth generation of C Class. Production of the cars started in 2014 and continued until 2021. The W205 C class is available in sedan, station wagon, coupe, and cabriolet body styling.
The W205 C Class is larger than its predecessor. It is more like a mini S series. However, the car is significantly lighter. It uses aluminum extensively throughout the body, and this lowers the car’s weight by as much as 100 kg. The W205 C Class is also the first to use the Mercedes Benz modular rear architecture platform. The cars feature front axle four-link suspension and rear axle five-link suspension.
Mercedes’ first ever cabriolet was the C Class Cabriolet. It’s a 2-door 4-seater car with similar dimensions and interior features as the C Class Coupe which it is based on. Its fabric roof opens and closes in approximately 20 seconds.

Next up is the W206.
This is the internal designation for the fifth generation of the C Class. It is a compact executive car available in a 4-door sedan and 5-door station wagon body styling.
The W206 also uses Mercedes' MRA platform. The car has independent front and rear suspension, with a four-link front axle and a multi-link rear axle. The W206 has 3 gasoline engine models – the C180, C200, and C300.
The C180 and C200 have a 1.5 liter engine producing 168 p and 201hp respectively. While the C300 has a 2.0 liter engine, producing 255hp.
There are also diesel engine models – the C220d, and C300d.
