Alfred Watkins (1855-1935) was a photographer, inventor, antiquarian and author. He invented the Watkins Exposure Meter in 1890, the first commercially successful light meter. One was used by Herbert Ponting while documenting Captain Scott's Antarctic Expedition 1910-1913. Watkins also wrote the first technical photography textbook in 1911. In 1921 he was at the Blackwardine crossroads in his car and he conceived the idea of ancient Ley Lines or Sighting Tracks. He developed this theory and published his most well known book The Old Straight Track in 1925.
