Many people around the world find themselves terrified of spiders and other arachnids. But no living spider was ever as terrifying as the Jorogumo of Japanese mythology. According to legend, a Jorogumo came into being when a spider turned 400 years old, growing to a monstrous size and gaining magical powers, that included the ability to transform into a beautiful woman. It would then use this form to lure in unsuspecting men and feast on them, like a spider would on a fly!
