How does my brain work? Our brain is constantly trying to predict reality: everyone sees what his or her brain creates.
Professor of Perception and Cognition Floris de Lange investigates how the brain works like a prediction machine, how various forms of precognition can influence our perception and decision-making. Together with his father, De Lange looks at the paintings he made when he had hallucinations. He also visits the museum with the original drawings that Nobel Prize-winning neurologist Ramon y Cajal made of the brain.
Also in this episode: experiments from the 1960s with electrical brain implants and a visit to the Donders Institute.
Are we more than a prediction machine?
In Big Questions, science journalist Rob van Hattum takes a journey through science with eight Dutch researchers who are at the top of their field. Their 'big questions' are central. They tell about their heroes, visit special places and talk about the breakthroughs in their field.
