The worlds largest aircraft, (theres only one!) The Anotonov 225 "Mriya" on Thursday 12th arrived from Riga and on Friday 13th June 2014 departed East Midlands bound for Toulouse!
I'd never seen it before and this day was the perfect opportunity, it was beautiful weather conditions and a good departure time estimated to be 10:10am so I had no reason not to go and see this stunning, huge and extremely rare aircraft!
The departure was just under an hour later than planned, but the Antonov taxied out behind a Saudi Arabian Air Force C-130 Hercules. Due to her size however the AN225 made its way straight to runway, to backtrack down RWY09. It then returned to the taxiway, turning off at "W1" which meant for a perfect head-on shot! It then took a left turn and continued down the taxiway for a RWY27 departure. Look carefully in the side window of the cockpit as the pilot gives us a wave.
The departure was extremely loud and famously "sluggish" probably being the right word, with plenty of black smoke being emitted from its engines as they hauled the several hundred tonne aircraft into the sky. Before making a left turn to head towards the south and onwards to Toulouse, France.

Incredible aircraft, seemed I was stood in a perfect spot aswell! The head on shot down the taxiway was a complete bonus, was not expecting that at all!

Check out the full video from EMA this day including a Saudi Air Force Hercules, Thomson (FCA) 767, departing empty to BHX and more!

Thanks for watching!
