Finally, the IRS is providing a FREE online portal that you can use to file your 1099s with the IRS and your state. The portal is called IRIS (Information Returns Intake System). In this episode, we will discuss everything you need to know about this portal, including features of the site, how to use it, and which returns the portal will accept.

Steps to Apply for TCC:
1. Go to www.irs.gov/iris
2. Click on Sign in to IRIS button under “What you Need”
3. Sign in or create an account to begin the application process
*Note that a responsible official for your company must be the one to initiate and submit the IRIS Application
4. Complete and submit an IRIS Application for Transmitter Control Code (TCC) .
The purpose of the TCC is to identify who you (the transmitter) are. Anyone who files returns electronically is required to have one.
5. Once the application is in Complete status and TCCs have been issued, access the Taxpayer Portal to submit information returns.
