My 3/4 inch ram pump provides about 15,000 gallons of free water each month. It does cost money to run the electric transfer pump. But, the cost of running that pump for about an hour each day is not even detectable on my monthly electric bill. It draws about as much power as a microwave oven or small space heater. (1100 watts.) If I lived in an extremely dry climate, I could simply install a "twin" ram pump and tie it in to the existing Delivery line; which could double production.
Or, I could replace the system with a single 1 inch ram pump which could provide more than 40,000 gallons per month.
However, I will never again use a large capacity open reservoir. It isn't worth the hassle of keeping it clean. Instead, I would choose multiple cheap small pools for easy maintenance. (Delivery pipe can be swiveled to fill each pool as needed.) With enough water in reserve, you could irrigate entire yard in one day; instead of piecemeal like I do.
Today's video mostly focuses on "deep" watering during the summer. But, my ram pump worked great last Fall when I needed brief/repeated watering for new grass seed. I had a dozen sprinklers connected in series with "Y" splitters and 25 ft garden hoses all along the perimeter of property. I could change the irrigation "zones" without stepping on the fragile baby grass.
Take the time to understand the physics and concept of ram pumps before investing. These things are not always "plug-and-play." And, test them in your yard before installing in a creek. Often, the smallest "tweak" can make a huge difference in pump performance.
