When it comes to budget city cars, you normally won't expect much. A bare cabin, dismal drive performance, and an overall budget feel. The 2021 Changan Alsvin Platinum seeks to change that outlook. The Alsvin may be priced at the same level as the Toyota Wigo or the Honda Brio, but this budget city car is as big as the Honda City RS, the Toyota Vios, and the Hyundai Accent. It also has features that can run with these industry giants. The only vehicle at its price level that can match it in terms of features is the Chery Tiggo 2, another Chinese entry. In this Filipino car review, we check out the 2020 Changan Alsvin Platinum and see how Changan managed to give us a fully loaded subcompact sedan for the price of a supermini. You will be hard pressed to choose the Mitsubishi Mirage over this, when it comes to pricing and features. I expected the 2021 Changan Alsvin to be a poor driving performer, but I was surprised with how it drove, similar to the Geely Coolray. The use of a wet type DCT helped the Alsvin put out a decent drive performance, and the larger than usual engine is also a factor. The Alsvin may have a weird name, but the performance is above average. It can outrun all the other budget city cars in the segment, and may even give subcompact cars like the mazda 2, the Suzuki Swift, and the Toyota Yaris a run for their money.
