The “Basics of Islam” series is divided into six levels. The six levels are divided into three phases. Each phase consists of two levels. In the first stage, which consists of levels one and two, the aim is to make it easier for the child to understand Islamic concepts and terminology. The purpose of this phase is not to impose on the child a technical knowledge of Islam, but to instill in them a sense of Muslim identity and to explore key Islamic concepts. Traditionally, Muslim parents are advised to adopt a play-based approach with their children's education for the first seven years and then formally teach them for the next seven years.

In the first two years of the curriculum following this advice, a more visual approach has been adopted, with the text being kept to a minimum. This enables the material to be taught in a child-friendly manner and allows teachers and parents to make the lessons more interactive and engaging for the child. The second phase of the curriculum begins in the third grade when the child reaches the age of seven.

Since that level, a more formal way of learning has been adopted. In the first stage many concepts are reviewed, but instead of being mostly pictorial, they are based on more text so that the important concepts can be conveyed to the child in detail and the child can start thinking more about the content. To be encouraged in the third phase of the in-depth curriculum, this consists of grades five and six, the series changes to a more text-filled style. This is to encourage the child to learn independently and to practice their important reading and comprehension skills.

Content at this level increases the difficulty in engaging students academically and raising the standard of literacy and understanding of Islamic concepts. The concepts of the last two phases are reviewed in this third phase, but in much greater detail. Parents and teachers alike will find this phase useful as reading material to help them prepare for the first two phases in terms of subject knowledge. Thus, the three stages work together to familiarize the child with Islamic terms, concepts and values.

By the end of this course, the child will have acquired the necessary Islamic knowledge (individual) so that he can live his life as a practicing Muslim. This Islamic Studies Series is a great way for parents to lay the foundation for their child's education. If Allah wills, more degrees will be added in this curriculum, thus increasing the children's understanding of Islam and enabling them to become lifelong learners of Islamic tradition.
