Finally a real mainstream 3 row electric SUV

OK, spoiler alert, If you happened to be one of the ones that have preordered the Kia EV9, you’re really going to like this this is what I’ve been waiting for a long time. Finally a mainstream electric 3 row SUV. We’re not talking a couple of jump seats but a real useable third row These are vehicles that make sense, big vehicles that normally burn more fuel.. This is the new Kia EV9

Sizewise, have a look at the Telluride because dimension wise the EV9 is very similar in width, height and the same length.. The EV9 is built off the EGMP all electric platform which also gives the SUV a 200mm longer wheelbase compared to the Telluride. Even though the dimensions are similar, the EV9 looks bigger with the styling .

Looking at the EV9, its like what you would expect from an SUV of the future. Bold edgy styling with amazing proportions. Along with a solid front, the EV9 has such a unique lighting treatment that blends seamlessly, available with an active design and work well with the slim DRLs and the rest of the front.

Wheels start at 19” and up to 21” with a combination of alloy and wheel covers designed to aid in aerodynamics aiding in increased range. The profile is athletic with shoulders emphasized with star map lamp graphic in the rear. The lines are so clean in the back with stylish creases, a hidden rear wiper and a lifted bumper look. GT Line trims get a more blacked out treatment on the wheels, bumper and trim.

Interior
The interior of the new EV9 is fresh and modern living space and full of technology including the new ccNc infotainment which feature dual 12.3” screens with wireless CarPlay/AA, OTAs, fingerprint reader and digital key so you can use your phone instead of a key fob. Dedicated hvac for 2-3 rows.

The EV9 is the first model in the Kia lineup to embrace their sustainability strategy so in a move to elevate leather from their interiors, the EV9 uses a host of bio and recycled materials thought the interior. All EV9s come with a two tone interior and plenty of soft materials throughout the cabin. The look is really clean with lots of storage and for comfort, you can get available comfort seats for both first and second rows.

Overall interior passenger space is very very similar to the Telluride give or take a few mm, in fact, third row seating can be moire with sliding second row seats. Cargo room is a tiny bit smaller than the Telluride however taht difference is made up with a front trunk.
How many seats?

Drive
The EV6 uses the latest fourth gen battery pack with higher power density. 2 battery pack options. 76.1 kWh RWD with 370kms range and a larger 99.8 kWh that comes in both RWD/AWD with ranges up to 489.
The base Light RWD comes with 215hp and 258 lb.ft, the Wind AWD with larger battery has a little less power at 201hp with the same torque.
The AWD ups the ante by a large margin with 379hp and 516 lb.ft.

Great news for those wanting to tow, with the AWD, max towing is 5000lbs and on the very top GT line trim, you even get self leveller rear suspension levelling. Not sure what the RWD only with 201hp is like but this AWD has plenty, more than enough power and torque to handle any day to day activities you can throw at it.
