Autosport connectors are the go to option when it comes to professional motorsport wiring harness construction, however many enthusiasts find it daunting understanding how to select a suitable connector. In this HPA members webinar, we’ll learn how to specify a connector and how to understand the part numbers.

While we prefer the terms 'motorsport', 'Autosport' (as per some branding) or 'race spec' connectors, these are also what many commonly refer to as 'mil-spec' connectors as well. Variations of this circular connector style are also widely used in aerospace applications, with the general difference for what we use here being our want for higher pin counts/density and more compact sizes than some of the more mainstream aero space use cases.

As covered later in this lesson it is also essential to match the right connector with the right crimp tools, with the likes of the Daniels Manufacturing Corp AFM8 or DMC AFM8 and similar crimp tools being considered industry standards at this level. While the initial cost is higher for a cimp tool like this, the fact that you can get different dies for the one tool does make them different to the more single use case specific tooling we would use with the likes of your Deutsch DTM or TE Connectivity AMP Econoseal and Weatherpack connectors.

This HPA members-only lesson titled '313 | Selecting Autosport Connectors' has been available on our website for 12 months or so, along with over 300 other lessons on a HUGE range of wiring, tuning, engine building, CAD and data analysis-based topics. 3 months Gold Membership is included for FREE with every course purchase.
