THIS is the 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ.

This is our first opportunity to explore the LYRIQ, spelled LYRIQ, but before we go crawling around it here are some quick stats.

The Lyriq is a pure electric SUV with a 100-kWh battery pack, rear-wheel drive, roughly 340 horsepower, 325 lb-ft of torque, and according to Cadillac a range in excess of 300 miles.

And…enough stats. Let’s climb inside.

I’ll talk about occupant space but first, I’m distracted by that. It’s a standard 33” curved LED screen. Neat. Ok, how do I fit?

I’ll add that cargo space is a decent 28 cu-ft and I really dig the laser-etched patterns. Wood. Metal.

For charging the Cadillac LYRIQ includes 190 kW DC fast charging abilities that can add up to 195 miles of range in approximately 30 minutes. Charge at home and the 19.2 kW charging unit can add about 52 miles for every hour charged.

On the road, LYRIQ drivers can employ a one-pedal drive function, so you’ll rarely have to lift your foot from the accelerator. Plus, there’s a pressure-sensitive paddle here that the driver can use to adjust the regenerative braking intensity.

Naturally, the Cadillac LYRIQ will offer General Motor’s Super Cruise feature, allowing the driver to remove their hands from the steering wheel along pre-mapped roadways throughout the US and Canada.

Note, Super Cruise requires the driver to keep their gaze on the road ahead.

But that’s just common sense now, isn’t it?

Other features that should elevate the LYRIQ driving experience are a digital key feature and a 19-speaker audio system with headrest speakers

Regarding exterior styling, I generally prefer to let you come to your own conclusions, but I do have a couple of notes.

20-inch wheels come standard, but you can opt for 22’s like this model. Cadillac is naturally proud of the LYRIQ’s heritage-inspired vertical lighting design.

But, absent heritage, the head, and taillights are still awesome with their choreographed sequences.

Lastly, I hope you like silver or black because those are your only paint choices. Satin Steel Metallic or Stellar Black Metallic to be specific. But I’m told more variety is coming.

Lastly, the LYRIQ’s prime competitors include pure electric crossovers like the Tesla Model Y, Jaguar I-Pace, and Audi E-Tron.

The Cadillac LYRIQ will arrive in dealerships in the first half of 2022, with a starting price just shy of $60k not including destination charges.

If that seems like a reasonable sum to taste the future, you can order a LYRIQ of your own starting in September of 2021.
