Bryant Cook plays Mississippi River in a Legacy League on Magic: The Gathering Online! These matches were played on: 03/23/24

With the advent of Creative Technique decks, colloquially known as "Mississippi River" thanks to their reliance on the Cascade mechanic, Legacy has been iterating on the one aspect of the deck that needed a lot of work. Speed.

To do this, the inclusion of Violent Outburst and Tibalt's Trickery enables turn-two combo attempts. With the ability to present a win more quickly in strictly Red and Green, the mana has also improved. Cascade cards now can be lower mana value, further increasing the speed. Violent Outburst and Throes of Chaos pair with Creative Technique to increase the density of initial Cascade cards that will lead to the Tibalt's Trickery.

There is a trade-off, as this Tibalt's Trickery shift has the potential to fizzle now. Something the slower Mississippi River decks did not do. But with the speed at which Legacy games are often decided (even if they're not over), the risk of hitting another copy of Tibalt's Trickery is a small price to pay. The reward? FASTER BIG DUMB MONSTERS!
