If you want to know when will the #coronavirus #vaccine will be developed, why is it taking so long to develop a coronavirus vaccine and how long will it take the vaccine to reach us ? , this is the right video.
In this video, you will find out the reasons for such delay in coronavirus vaccine development and approximate time after which coronavirus vaccine will be made available.
Around 50 companies and academic institutions are involved in vaccine development. Five hundred clinical studies are registered with WHO Clinic Trial Registry as of March 2020.
News of development of coronavirus vaccine is not new. But the question is, when are they going to be made available to us and why?
For example : a dengue vaccine named Dengvaxia in Philippines was yanked from the market due to safety issues.
That's right, its the safety issues first which takes time.
For this, the drug or vaccines has to go through 3 phases of clinical trials followed by government review and phase 4.

Phase I : It examines a small group of healthy people, typically between 20 - 80 individuals, who receive different doses of an experimental treatment and evaluated the vaccine for safety and immune response at different doses. For COVID-19, this is expected to take 3 months, it can typically take 1-2 years for other drugs.

Phase II : Its a randomized double blind placebo controlled study of hundreds of people that evaluates the safety, assesses efficacy and informs optimal dose and vaccine schedule. For COVID-19, this is expected to take 8 months, it can typically take 2-3 years for other drugs.

Phase III : Its a randomized double blind placebo controlled study of thousands of people that evaluates the safety and efficacy. For COVID-19 trials, this may be combined with phase II. It can typically take 2-4 years for other drugs.

After 3 phases of clinical trials, government body reviews trial data and other information in the licensing application to approve a new vaccine. This typically takes 1-2 years but is likely to be expected to take only a few months.

After approval, phase IV begins where the new vaccine is made available to people and monitors effectiveness in real world conditions.

Thus, the time taking step of vaccine approval is to ensure the safety of us so that million and billions of lives would not be affected.
