Subaru's unusual decision to split the WRX and Impreza from one another makes total sense. For 2022 The WRX shares practically nothing with the other compact sedan in their lineup, no sheetmetal, no doors, even the dashboard ands rear seats are different. Why bother? Because fewer compromises are found in thew WRX as a result. The wider body means there's no need for tacked-on fender flares like we see in a Type R, the bespoke chassis means no added-on bracing like we see in Hyundai or Toyota sports sedans, and it means this WRX was designed from the ground up to be the ultimate Subaru AWD rally car.
