The aerodynamics of Formula 1 starting from the introduction of front wings to the invention of diffusers are truly fascinating. Diffusers have gone over many changes since the day they were introduced, mainly for safety purposes. However, they are set to return in the 2022 season.

Diffusers have been a topic of great debate over the last decade, although they were first introduced by Team Lotus in the 1980s. This devices create additional downforce on race cars and allow them to take corners at higher speeds. Diffusers also had an unexpected return in the 2009 season when some times created the doble diffuser. This aerodynamic improvement allowed some teams to have a head start, but all other teams soon caught up. The aerodynamics behind diffusers are very fascinating.
