If you have a Tesla Model Y, you no doubt have experienced the ride quality first hand. And although Tesla did improve the suspension on the Model Y and Model 3 some time in 2023, it still leaves a lot to be desired for those looking for a more plush ride.

The reason why the Model Y lacks a plush ride is because the suspension chosen for the car is more performance geared. The Coils on the car from Tesla are a linear design, meaning there is no flexibility in the way the car handles bumps and divots in the road. Instead, the bigger the compression, the harder the feedback.

The coils are paired with a preset shock which has no adjustability. This combination is a good fit for handling the overall weight of the Model Y, and keeps that performance DNA in place, but it doesn't allow you to have the ability to find a smoother ride. Thats where Unplugged Performance comes in!

Unplugged Performance was one of the first companies to offer a suspension upgrade for the Tesla Model Y. The suspension upgrade included a ton of features that allowed nearly countless configurations for tuning the ride for sport or comfort. After a few years though, there are now enough Model Y's on the road to support those people who appreciate the performance of the Model Y, but on a day to day basis would prefer a more cushioned ride.

Right around Christmas, Unplugged Performance released their new comfort suspension at nearly half the price of the original. This new suspension affords you the same level of comfort with less customization. For example, the more expensive option allows you to adjust ride height and dampening on the go. This suspension only allows you to adjust dampening on the front suspension under the hood, but requires the wheels to be removed to adjust the rear. It is also not able to adjust ride height.

So if you are not looking to take your Model Y to the track, these customizations are not necessary. In fact, when installing this suspension at half the price, you are able to set how soft or firm you want the ride, install the suspension, and never worry about adjusting again!

The best part about this suspension is that because there are no complicated adjustments to be made, this is very DIY friendly. In fact, there are 8 bolts/nuts on the front corners and 4 bolts/nuts on the rear corners. It takes about 30 minutes per side on the front and 20 minutes per side on the rear. So in 3 hours total, you can have a fresh new comfortable ride for a bargain price.
