This is the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre segment of DIY Destinations - Whitehorse and Kluane National Park. The host Charles and Sarah visit Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre. First open in 2012 on the banks of the Yukon River, the centre is the main gathering place and a home to celebrate the heritage and contemporary way of life of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation. It also offers various cultural and educational programs such as sewing circles, Moose hair tufting, artists in residence to support local indigenous artists. To their good fortune, their visit took the same as the week long celebration dinner to commemorate the 50th year since beginning of the collective land claims by Yukon’s First Nations. In 1973, a delegation of Yukon First Nations Chiefs stool up and presented the policy paper that paved the way for the negotiation of the Yukon Final and Self-Government Agreements to the federal government, known as Together Today For Our Children Tomorrow. One of the lineup for tonight features a local, Whitehorse base Inland Tlingit dance group Dakhká Khwáan Dancers.
