Consider the Maserati Levante a musical instrument. Each press of the throttle, flick of the shifter, or squeeze of the brake produces a new, exciting, and often unpredictable note.

Maserati sells the Levante with four engine configurations. There are the 345-horsepower and 424-hp versions of the V6, and then there are the 550-hp and 590-hp versions of the V8. Regardless of engine size and output, expect twin turbos and an 8-speed automatic transmission. And a lot of noise.

Inside, the Levante offers relatively cramped quarters, but there is enough space for four average-size adults. Coupe-styled SUVs rarely feature great rear-seat headroom or rear visibility, and the Levante is no different. Cargo space expands from 20.5 cubic feet to 57 when you fold the rear seat.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, with USB inputs, live traffic, and voice-search capability. That’s good, because the Levante’s lightly retouched version of FCA’s Uconnect infotainment system may leave you wanting more from your $100,000 SUV.

Prices start at $76,980 but rise quickly, with the top-of-the-line Trofeo starting at $169,980. But the Levante is car about emotion, rather than dollars and sense. For more information on the 2019 Maserati Levante, read Cliff’s full review on CarGurus: https://cargur.us/vBqbG
