We have developed a "hardwire belief as a species" that good grades will guarantee us a successful future. Shilpa Kapur challenges this belief with her experience as a learner and as an educator and with reference to global research and statistics on the matter. She warns us that this immense pressure on students in the contemporary world has a major impact on our future adults' mental health. As an educator, Shilpa Kapur demonstrates how education in our fast-paced world should focus more on "enriching wellbeing and life skills" and that higher education institutions should reform their admissions processes to focus more on students' "personal attributes" rather than their grades. Shilpa Kapur is an experienced Leader and Teacher of Science. With over ten years experience in industry, education and learning, Shilpa has worked internationally, accruing experience in different educational settings whilst continuously learning and focusing on interconnectedness of Education, Technology and Neuroscience. An advocate for well-being, sleep health and Education; Shilpa realised early on in her career that education is not about grades and that schooling should provide constructive learning on many other aspects of life; well-being being one. Shifting her perspective and practice in teaching and learning, Shilpa values well-being of her students more than anything else in classroom. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
