In this lecture, we'll look at the first chapter, "Capital Goes to War", of Maurizio Lazzarato's "Capital Hates Everyone: Fascism or Revolution". This work focuses on emphasizing and insisting upon the violence and destabilization inherent to capitalism which is not just a purgeable byproduct that neoliberalism can cover up through reforms and trick-down economics. Lazzarato spends this chapter reformulating the implications of capitalism when viewed in a contemporary, analyzing the way it affects subjectivity, and critiquing Foucault's conception of power as solely producing subjectivity, maintaining that, while Foucault is partially correct, capital depends upon the violence of fascism, racism, sexism, and nationalism. Enjoy!
