On March 9, 2022, the Russians entered Olena’s village in the Kharkiv region of eastern Ukraine. They occupied the area for more than six months.

During that time, Olena witnessed the destruction of her village. Homes and farms were damaged or destroyed, creating a severe shortage of food for her and her neighbors living on the frontlines.

Together with American Red Cross, CORE distributed food kits to recently liberated villages like Olena’s. Watch the video to learn more about Olena’s experience and how CORE and American Red Cross are combating food insecurity on the frontlines of the conflict.
