Last weekend of rifle season in D7 (Central Valley, Ca). Camped at a very nice campsite with great campfire both nights so besides hunting, I also enjoyed the camping experience :)
Came upon a pack of dogs the weekend before which chased a small but legal buck right in front of me.

Hiked most of the time, didn't see anything besides one doe. Lots of deer trails, and deer signs, so this is definitely a good area and will be worth it hunting it next year, including during archery.
It's never a loss, but always a learning experience.
