Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door Coupe Introduces a New Four-Door Sports Car

It could be argued that the 2019 Mercedes-Benz
AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is as much about style as it is substance.
This new model wants neither.

The performance promises to be as breathtaking as the styling.
In press materials, Mercedes-Benz assures us that the AMG GT 4-Door will deliver

“… more space, more power, more goosebumps …” That should capture the attention of driving enthusiasts everywhere.

This first four-door sports car from Affalterbach
the town near Stuttgart that serves as the home of AMG)
was inspired by other AMG models: the SLS and AMG GT.
It was developed autonomously by Mercedes-AMG. Now,
after more than a year of camouflaged spy photos,
Mercedes has officially taken the wraps off this four-door coupe.
The unveiling occurred on March 6, 2018 at the Geneva International Auto Show.

The interior presents a symbiosis of performance and exclusivity and integrates an ultra-modern, new type of operating system into the atmosphere of a Gran Turismo.

The sculptural instrument panel forms an interesting contrast here to the large trim element with its flowing style, which merges into the driver's door in a wrap-around effect.

Illuminated turbine-look air vents refine the high-quality impression and underline the sporty appearance.

The eye-catching feature in all AMG GT interiors is the center console, with its stylized V8 design, putting the spotlight on the brand's performance claim as well as optimally fulfilling functional
requirements.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 is the leadoff model, with its 429-horsepower turbocharged

3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine. This version features EQ boost, which is a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with a motor-generator sandwiched between the engine and transmission.

It delivers up to 21 additional horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The two GT 63 models use a biturbo 4.0-liter V8 that produces 577 horsepower, or in the more-powerful GT 63 S, 630 horsepower.

Even with the base engine, performance promises to be
exhilarating, with an estimated zero-to-60 time of 4.4
seconds and a top speed of 174 miles per hour. The GT 63
accomplishes the same run in an estimated 3.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 193 miles per hour. The GT 63 S is quicker yet, reaching 60 miles per hour in an estimated 3.1 seconds. Top speed in this version is 195 miles per hour.

All models feature 4Matic all-wheel drive with variable torque distribution and a nine-speed automatic transmission. In the GT 53, the automatic uses a torque converter to couple the engine to the transmission. The V8 models utilize a wet clutch for this function.
In addition, the GT 63 S models have a 4Matic system that includes a Drift Mode, just in case the driver is looking for additional ways to play with the engine’s 630 horsepower.
