TOPIC: “Electrification as a Cornerstone of Energy Transition”
SPEAKER : Nikhil Kumar, Managing Director, Intertek

ABSTRACT:
The global energy landscape is undergoing a dynamic transformation, with electrification emerging as a cornerstone of the transition towards a sustainable future. This discussion delves into the opportunities and challenges associated with this paradigm shift. We will explore how increasing dependence on renewable energy sources, like solar and wind, can decarbonize sectors historically reliant on fossil fuels. However, integrating these variable sources into a reliable and stable electric grid presents a significant challenge.
Drawing on insights from large-scale renewable integration studies across major interconnects, we will examine strategies to overcome these hurdles. The potential of smart grid technologies in facilitating a smooth transition will be explored, drawing upon real-world experiences with Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) and Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). By fostering a deeper understanding of these challenges and solutions, we can pave the way for a future powered by clean, reliable, and sustainable energy.
