Re-routing the intake to your cowl is in my opinion the best option for us tacoma owners when either you are worried about water crossing, clean air, or you are doing the big chop on your fenders and removing your wheel well liners. It seems like everyone out there runs a snorkel and I am not the biggest fan of how they look. There wasn't a ton of information on the cowl intake for a 3rd gen so hopefully this is a good tool for those that want to take a crack at it!
