A review of the 2024 Toyota Vios XLE 1.3L CVT. The best-selling sedan of all time since 2002.
Together with its larger MPV and SUV brethren, the Toyota Vios is a subcompact car that is among Toyota Motor Philippines' (TMP) most cherished and best-selling nameplates. Since its introduction in 2002, hundreds of Filipino drivers have tested and driven vehicles bearing the Vios label, whether for personal or commercial purposes.

The new Vios boasts a completely revamped look and interior. Long squinting headlights, broad grille, and fog lamp vents shaped like teardrops are all used to decorate the front. Stretched to wrap over the rear quarter panel are even the taillights. With skirts, a spoiler, and a redesigned bumper right out of the showroom, TMP has added additional Prime versions to its inventory. However, there was also a significant redesign of the inside. A redesigned steering wheel like that of the Toyota Yaris is included in the cabin, and the dashboard has a more cohesive appearance that flows seamlessly into the door panels.

There are two engine options available for the Toyota Vios: a 1.5-liter with outputs of 105 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque, and a 1.3-liter gasoline engine that generates 98 horsepower and 123 Nm of torque. A continuously variable gearbox (CVT) or a five-speed manual transmission can be matched with any of the two engine options. In a front-engine, front-wheel-drive configuration, the engine is positioned across to maximize passenger space.

The Yaris and other compact Toyota vehicles use the same platform as the third-generation Vios. The suspension configuration is still a front McPherson strut and a rear torsion beam. At higher trim levels, the rear brakes are disc brakes, while on lower J and Base models, the rear brakes are trailing drum brakes. For improved handling and comfort, the Toyota Vios has coil springs and gas shock absorbers. The Vios's chassis is built using a unibody design, which means the car's structure is made of only one piece. Thus, additional chassis stiffness is possible without compromising lightweight.

With the most recent upgrade for the G version, Toyota implemented new driving modes. The 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine's potential is now fully realized with the addition of the ECO and Sport driving modes. With its 10-speed CVT and 1.5-liter gasoline engine that generates the same numbers as the G model, the Toyota Vios GR-S stands apart from the rest of the lineup.

The new XE and XLE variations, as well as both of the previous models, come equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display audio system that supports iPod compatibility. Unfortunately, this model does not currently include Android Auto or Apple CarPlay as standard. However, G versions come with push-start ignition.

As previously stated, the G and E models of the Toyota Vios now come equipped with LED foglights, while the G type receives standard LED headlights. Paddle shifters and additional driving modes, such as Eco and Sport mode for the G CVT model, are also a nice feature. The Toyota Vios still lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but it does have the T-Link technology, which lets users mirror their smartphone device.

The abundance of safety measures on the Vios is one of its better characteristics overall. The whole package includes seven airbags, ABS with EBD and braking assist, hill-start assist, five 3-point seatbelts, ISOFIX child seat tethers, and child lock protection. In addition, Toyota has basic equipment with three airbags across the lineup; seven airbags are available as an option for added security.
