So this time I decided to mix it up a little. We visited our Indonesian friend Tedy and asked if he wants to go on a journey with us. He agreed and this should be one of the most locally connected journeys we have ever made, as Tedy could show us Indonesia like no one else. So we packed up my gear (Sony a7s and GoPro) and took a plane to Dubai and then to Jakarta.

Since backpcking is best when there is as little tourists as possible we chose a more unusual route to travel Indonesia. Initially we thought about taking the route most people do - Jakarta - Bali - Komodo Islands - Jakarta, but that would mean crowded places and less opportunities to film. So for our 2.5 weeks we chose another route which led us from Jakarta directly to Manado, then to Yogyakarta checking out Borobudur, stopping in Cirebon and then back to Jakarta.

If you have a limited amount of time to travel, Manado is an amazing place as it offers diverse nature and locations only hours away from each other. There is the Bunaken an amazing diving resort with one of the best diving spots in the world (Check out Panorama Diving Resort, it is has the best food, is very down to earth and affordable). After the Bunaken we went to the Tonkoko National Park and Tomohon. A highlight was also our stay at the Mountain View Resort & Spa. From there we did "off the grid" jungle tracks, climbing untouched waterfalls etc.

Next we went to Yogyakarta where we met some old school friends from Tedy. Big shout out to Ben who offered to drive us around and show us some locations! Borobudur should be definitely visited at sunrise, it's much more beautiful and less crowded. We also visited some other great temples, went to the coast and explored Mount Merapi where we found a burned village overgrown by jungle, no one was there so we explored some houses. It was an amazing adventure - except for the spiders!

Our last stop was in Cirebon since this is Tedys hometown. We discovered some amazing rice fields near the Abu Vulcano, and even stayed a night on the ocean in a traditional crab fishing house made out of bamboo.
