With heritage in India that traces back over 70 years, the Mahindra Thar comes from a long line of functional SUVs including the CJ3A, CJ3B, MM540, MM550, Classic & Major. However, with the introduction of the Thar the approach was more focused on lifestyle motoring. The car itself though was too utilitarian for its price and the updated were slightly incremental at best. Now, though, with the 2020 Mahindra Thar, things see a drastic improvement. It’s now better built, looks and feels more modern, has more tech, is more practical and safer too.

It’s been a long time coming but 4 years of development have yielded a good fruit and a decade after the first Thar was introduced, the model name now gets quite the overhaul. The Thar is available with 2.0 litre petrol and 2.2 litre diesel engines, both available with 4x4 and 6-speed manual transmissions as standard with an optional 6-speed automatic transmission as well.

New highlights include LED DRLs and tail lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry, touchscreen infotainment, a 6-speaker music system, cruise control and more. It is also available with more roof options including a fixed soft top, fixed hardtop and a convertible soft top.
