Beginning: "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?" (Mark 8:36) These words haunted me throughout my young life.
The world is relentless in its demands for our attention: but what is the point of it all unless we come to know God our Creator?
And how can we come to know God, unless we pull back from the world, unless we retreat?
So I invite you to join me on a journey to God's Holy Mountain, where Jesus has promised we will "find rest for our souls."
We do this in union with the Church's patron of all retreats, St. Ignatius of Loyola, as we enter into his Spiritual Exercises.

1. The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius: to attain that loving freedom to do God's will which is indifference
2. Why a retreat? To draw closer to God. John 3:1 ff. Luke 12: 15-21.
3. How to make a retreat?
Prayer: Listening for God, then responding.
How to meditate: Enter mindfully.
Act of presence of God.
Ask for the grace I desire.
Attentively imagine the scene.
Colloquy with Father, Son, Our Lady as with a friend.
End with Our Father, Anima Christi or Hail Mary.
Reflection on the meditation time: stroll, refreshment.
Journal entry.
4. Where do I seek God? Stories, God's and mine. Nature.

General Readings: Luke 18:1-14; Mt.6:5-13; 11:28; 25:1-13; Mk.6:30,13:37.

Grace: Ask God for gift of thanksgiving.

Conclusion: The retreat, then, is a journey towards God, a journey into the heart of God. Where will I find God? However and where He wants to reveal Himself to me. Ultimately, it will be in my heart for that is the door at which He knocks.
Jesus tells us repeated: "Watch and pray." That is what we are going to do. To watch and pray in faith, in the humble confidence of beloved children.

I have included a little info on Fr. Raymond Gawronski S.J. here and a link to a dvd on the same subject. I have no connection with Fr Gawronski but as I am posting his series on my channel I felt it only fair he should benefit.
