With Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes coming out, we thought now was a perfect time to revisit the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy: one of the greatest trilogies that have ever been made in recent memory in my opinion. And this movie starts much like it ends…with a gang of chimps running free in the forest where they belong. Unfortunately for these chimpanzees, the original Planet of the Apes did in its first act, Rise of the Planet of the Apes starts with a great hunt. But instead of apes hunting man like we saw in 1968, we get man hunting down chimpanzees…with all the apes we see in this opening sequence actually being totally completely computer generated. I remember watching this movie in theaters when it first came out and being completely blown away by how damn realistic they made these chimps out to be. I mean…now that we’re in the 2020’s over a decade later, we’ve seen our fair share of animals being recreated with computer graphics in outstanding detail…with Rocket Raccoon of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy being the most popular example…so due to the natural passage of time, the VFX in this movie can be somewhat noticeable these days.
