This is the ultimate showdown between 4x4 enthusiast tribes - a comparison that pits the new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series up against the Land Rover Defender 110 and Nissan Patrol.

These three serious off-road capable four-wheel drive SUVs that we are comparing and - surprisingly, in the specs we’ve assembled - they’re close on price and equipment.

Our test vehicles are the base model Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series GX, and it is up against another base model, the Land Rover Defender 110 D250, but the Nissan Patrol Ti-L is a bit more expensive, but comes with a lot more kit because it’s the range-topping flagship version.

In this test we’ll address the important stuff like pricing and specs, practicality, safety and engine specs, but also look at how they drive on the road, while towing a 2750kg caravan as part of our towing review, and also how they go off road - they’re 4WD models, after all.
