Folks, if you are installing new wines or even doors. Or are you planning to hire a company to install new windows? Most window companies know this simple rule.
Always place the bottom paper or peel-and-stick flashing on the sill first, ensure the edges are past the new window by a minimum of 6 inches, and install the side flashing following the vertical sides.
Now you are ready to install the new windows.
After you or a company installs the window, the best method to ensure waterproofing them is to attach a metal Z flashing above these new windows.
This assures they won’t leak.

Installing new windows and then adding the flashing afterward is like the cart leading the horse or just plain ass-backward. Now you know.

Howdy guys and gals, at this home, the homeowner had retrofit windows with a 2-inch flange that is supposed to cover any imperfection when installed correctly.
We improvised to stop water from seeping into the area where the flange meets the framework.
