Lex had to go through so much, and what makes it so messed up is the only thing he ever wanted was love. His dad never loved him, Clark gave up on him, and then he had his breaking point when Lana left him. I’ve been rewatching Smallville recently, and you can tell how he slowly becomes more depressed and his happiness fades as the seasons go on.
