On 8 September 2022, the day before the 57th anniversary of the shootdown of Jim Stockdale in North Vietnam, the Naval Academy's Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership and the Leadership Ethics and Law Department hosted the annual Vice Admiral William P. Lawrence Ethics Award dinner for outstanding midshipmen scholars in the Ethics and Leadership courses of the 2021-2022 academic year. This year's honored guest was Dr. Jim Stockdale Jr., educator and author. He talked about his parent's lives before they became famous, and how their influence, not only on their sons, but their communities were profound and presaged their impact on the international stage during the Vietnam war.
