Police hold a press conference on April 24, a day after a double homicide suspect pursuit involving a 1-year-old baby.
STORY | A former Yakima police officer who police say killed two people and abducted his 1-year-old son in the state of Washington shot himself to death just north of Eugene, Oregon on Tuesday after a police pursuit, according to authorities.
His son was taken safely into state custody.
Authorities in West Richland, Washington issued an Amber Alert late Monday night as they searched for 39-year-old Elias Huizar and his son. Oregon State Police followed with its own Amber Alert about an hour later.
The alerts indicated Huizar was taking his son to Mexico.
A clerk at a Portland Plaid Pantry on Tuesday morning reported to police that Huizar was at the store at about 12:40 a.m. to purchase a drink. The clerk reported a child was seen in the backseat of a car Huizar was driving.
