Tie a Necktie (How to Tie a Tie for Beginners) - Pratt Knot / Shelby Knot. Knowing how to tie a tie is one of the most essential mens fashion skills you can have. Learn how to tie a tie fast. The Pratt Knot is one of the fastest and certainly more easy ways to tie a tie. And the best part is: the Pratt is one of the sharpest looking tie knot styles around.

In this installment on how to tie a necktie knot, I demonstrate how to tie a tie step by step using a necktie knot popularized by Don Shelby, the American news anchor (hence the by-names: Shelby Knot, Pratt-Shelby, Pratt Knot). The knot was first created by Jerry Pratt, a US civil servant, who showed it to Shelby in 1986. Shelby incorporated it into his on-camera attire. The Pratt Knot was subsequently embraced by the mens fashion world and received further publicity in the New York Times which acclaimed it as the best new necktie knot in over 50 years.

Today the Pratt tie knot is one of the most stylish ways of tying a tie. It’s a sharp, symmetrical, classic knot – perfect for job interviews, weddings (it makes an awesome wedding tie knot!), formals, proms, black tie events, graduations, work and business meetings.
