FAS-N-FAST hidden fasteners are ideal for newel post installations when other methods like newel rods are not possible because of metal structure in the floor, such as joist hangers. The tools required are a drill and a 2" hole saw, a router with a straight bit (either template bit or plain), and some 3.5" screws.
