@MotorTrendWatch invited me out to their Car of the Year testing to see what cars were under consideration, how they do their testing and also try out some of the cars! It was super cool seeing how involved and thorough the testing is, plus all the various criteria different cars are evaluated against.
There are 6 different judged criteria: safety, value, advancement in design, engineering excellence, efficiency, and performance of intended function. This is how something like this BMW 760i can be compared to a Acura Integra, not directly to each other, rather against how they should perform with the given criteria.

The latest generation BMW 7 Series is absolutely not a good looking vehicle, but the interior is next level impressive, even among the executive luxury sedan segment. This 760i featured all the ridiculous rear seat packages, including the theater screen which is not something I have ever seen before. The back seat is like a private jet on the road, Maybach level in terms of technology and luxury features. It's comfortable, surprisingly quick, obviously smooth and quiet. If only it looked more visually appealing...this would be the ultimate $160k luxury land yacht. But if you are just being driven around in the back seat...I would say this car is worth its massive price tag!!
