5 Reasons to Install an Outdoor Misting System

Here in Arizona, we live in one of the most beautiful areas of the country, and yet, come summer, the oppressive heat forces us indoors, seeking cooling relief from our air conditioners.

This year, take back your summer and outdoor living spaces by having an outdoor misting system installed. Imagine being able to comfortably host barbecues and garden parties on even the hottest days of July and August.
What is an Outdoor Misting System?
Outdoor misting systems have become quite common at theme parks, open-air malls, and restaurants with outdoor seating to keep their guests cool and comfortable. You can get this same convenience right at home by installing a residential misting system on your patio.

Misting systems work by pumping water at a high pressure through stainless steel tubing. The water comes out of the nozzles as a micro-fine mist, which immediately evaporates into the air. Most misting systems are installed around the perimeter of a patio or gazebo, creating a cool curtain of mist.

And don’t worry about getting drenched. The water droplets are so tiny that they evaporate quickly. Misting systems are meant to cool you off, not get you wet.

Outdoor misting systems enhance your life in more ways than keeping you cool. Keep reading to discover five more reasons to consider installing your very own misting system in your outdoor patio area this spring.
Reduce Temps by 30 Degrees
First and foremost, misting systems are extremely effective at dropping ambient temperatures quickly. Here’s how that works. The process of turning water molecules from liquid to gas requires energy -- or heat. This heat is drawn from the surrounding air and can reduce the air temperature by as much as 35 degrees in a matter of seconds. And the higher the outdoor temperature, the faster the water evaporates and, in turn, cools your outdoor space.
Use Less Energy than AC
It’s a common misconception that outdoor misting systems are a waste of water and energy. But, in reality, misting systems are more efficient than your air conditioner. Let us explain.

A typical AC unit uses 3-5 kilowatts of power each hour, which requires at least 75 gallons of water, based on an average of 25 gallons per kilowatt-hour. The small water pumps used in misting systems use about 250 watts per hour. Cooling a 10x10 area will use approximately 16 gallons of water per hour.
Eliminate Insects
The heat isn’t the only thing that makes AZ summers hard to bear -- those pesky insects play a part, too. Misting systems can actually keep mosquitoes, wasps, and other insects from ruining your good time. The fine droplets that are created by an outdoor misting system stick to the insects, making it difficult for them to move about and bother you and your guests.
