It’s estimated that as much as 3.5 million tons of plastic and solid waste is produced worldwide, with the USA responsible for up to 250 million tons per year. Only a small fraction of this is successfully recycled which means that the vast majority is simply sent to landfill. This has resulted in the need for vast facilities that have the space and technology to store such huge volumes… so, prepare to take a journey around the world as we visit the 15 largest garbage dumps on earth.
