It’s 50 degrees celsius, extremely hot weather for a sailor in full combat gear on the bridge of HMCS Iroquois. The Iroquois is a tribal class destroyer with state of the art tracking systems and the weaponry required to be the flagship for CTF 150. Today, the crew are in flat jackets and helmets as it navigates the warship from the narrow Bab el Mandeb Strait. The geographical chokepoint has the dubious distinction of being one of the most dangerous waterways on the planet. Translated from Arabic, Bab el Mandeb means the Gate of Tears

A powerful naval task group has sailed east from ports in Canada to one of the most lawless maritime regions in the world: the Persian Gulf. As a part of a six-part HD documentary series, we follow the daily events and real-life stories of the brave men and women living and working to keep these warships running at a 100%.
