There are many effective treatments for BPD. In medical school the test answer is always DBT but transference-focused therapy, and mentalization-based therapy work just as well. For the general psychiatrist good psychiatric management of BPD offers similar decreases in self harm and suicidality as well as reductions in the core symptoms of BPD. It’s easy to learn and can be applied in a busy practice.
