Peaceful, natural sites, dog friendly, with a lake, trails, biking, fishing, canoe/kayak rentals! close to Tampa/Fort DeSoto & St. Pete (Pros & cons below chapters)

Because we travel full time, we can't always choose where or for how long we go - we take what we can get. Winter camping in Florida in state parks can be a challenge.

But when we were able to get 6 nights at this state park campground, we were thrilled. It was our first time there and we hope it won't be our last. We went biking, hiking, checked out the dock (great fishing) and the swim area.

Much like most state parks, there are so many activities and amenities - that's why state parks are our favorite camping destinations.

Most sites are large, with privacy, and not far from trails leading to the lake.

Bonus, it was not far from Fort DeSoto County Park campground (look for that complete tour soon, with a bonus video including ferry to Egmont Key and lighthouse) - where Larry went kitesurfing,

CONS: no laundry/sewer; weird location for bathhouse; one way streets= hard to back in; some street noise; no good souvenirs
