This is a Motormouth couple car review of the BMW X5 45e plug-in hybrid. The X5 45e comes with a 3L turbocharged inline 6 with an 8 speed automatic transmission combined with an electric motor. This BMW X5 45e has 389 Horsepower. 443 lb-ft of torque. 45 km of EV Range. Its range is competitive compared to its competition like the Volvo XC90 T8 with 30km of EV range, the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid with 48km, Range Rover Sport PHEV with 51km of range and the Audi Q5e which is smaller but another PHEV option gets about 30km of range which is around the same as the BMW X3 30e. None of these luxury brands get the same EV range as the Toyota RAV4 Prime with 68km of range. The BMW X5e comes with loads of standard features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen with BMW’s iDrive, 12.3-inch digital driver display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, heated front Vernasca leather sport seats, driver seat memory, heated steering wheel, a leatherette dashboard, ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof. Our test model includes, the premium enhanced package for $9,000 CAD, which has a wireless charger, comfort seats, head-up display, Harman Kardon sound system and parking assist. It also has the merino leather interior; which is beautiful leather for $1,900 and the glass application for $850, it has the glass console shifter. I highly recommend the comfort seats for long drives; it makes spending time in this SUV very comfortable. The BMW X5 45e earns a combined city/highway rating of 4.7L/100km, 50 MPG. With the battery depleted it gets a combined city/highway rating of 11.5L/100km, 20 MPG. It has worse fuel economy than the BMW M40i at 10.4L/100km and 23 MPG combined city/highway. Unfortunately, when the X5 45e runs out of pure electric range, the fuel economy is worse than the regular X5 with the same in-line 6-cylinder engine.
