Even with today's technology and new advancements in the world of deer hunting, a good camouflage pattern is still, in my opinion, the best way to remain undetected by a whitetail deer. Not only should your clothing be outfitted with a good camo pattern, but your deer stand should blend in with the surrounding environment as well. In this video the host of Northern Wisconsin Outdoor Adventures will go over the basic steps of how to camouflage your deer stand. While there are many ways to go about this process, the following steps have been found to be quite simple and successful. The first step to camouflaging a deer stand is to lay down a base coat of outdoor stain and sealant (this step is only required for wooden deer stands). This will not only give your stand protection from bad weather but it will also give it a base color. Earth-toned brown colors work the best. We used Pittsburgh Paints Ultra Advanced Stain and Sealant in an Oxford Brown color. The second step is to lay down your base camouflage pattern. All you need to complete this step is a few cans of spray paint in various camouflage colors. Green, Brown, Tan, and Black work the best. We used an H.S. Camo Permanent Spray Paint Kit to complete this step. The third and final step is to find a leaf from a plant or tree that is naturally occurring in your hunting stand's location, and use it as a stencil to give your camo pattern a realistic texture. To do this all you do is lay the leaf down where you want it, spray over the top of it with black spray paint, and lift up the leaf. What you're left with is a perfect imprint of a leaf with your camouflage pattern showing through the middle. You can put as many leaves on as you would like. By following the basic steps laid out in this video you should be able to camouflage your deer stand and get that much closer to becoming invisible to that big buck!
