Gigafactory Texas on 11 August 2021! This is where the Cyber Truck and Model Y will be built!
Foggy morning start at Giga Texas, but fortunately it began to clear up after about an hour wait, so was able to get some good quality video footage, which was a pleasant surprise! Some special equipment deliveries this morning and activity all over, especially inside. Getting views into the structure is getting more difficult because they are making very rapid progress on exterior wall installation, which is great to see!
In this video, we discuss Giga Texas specific topics in Tesla’s Impact Report 2020, which was released on the 10th of August. Some interesting details that help answer why some things were being constructed that many were speculating on, including the purpose of the underground water vaults. We also discuss the likely product (Model Y) production flow through the factory as the report provides examples from Fremont and Shanghai, but not Giga Texas. Hopefully the information, illustrations and discussion are helpful!

Here are the highlights from today's video:
- Large equipment deliveries this morning which included fan blowers, material handling containers and more … I did not see where these were taken into the factory, but I got some good shots while the trucks were parked near my launching area.
- The battery cell structure seems to be a priority area as the amount and speed of progress is stunning. The roof is getting more cementitious material while the areas around the HVAC equipment openings are being prepared for the insulation and cementitious material soon. Other large areas of the roof have the final weatherproof coverings installed. A lot of interior activity, including many walled off sections, HVAC ducting, electrical airing, equipment stockpiling and more. The exterior wall panels are now about halfway along the angled section and about 95% of the west wall area. There is a new large excavation pit just to the west of the structure as well.
- The casting machine structure roof now has a large poured concrete section completed while other areas are nearly ready for concrete. Looking inside the structure, we can see continued work on the 4th Giga Press (aka casting machine) foundation and what appears to be the mounting frame may be in the process of installation. It is uncertain if this is for a 6,000-ton press or the larger 8,000-ton press.
- In the central area, we see a large rectangular excavation just south of the new steel structure and more roofing and flooring decking has been installed as well.
- In the north “alley” area between the paint and battery cell structures, steel assembly is growing to the north, rapidly bridging the gap and is now at an interesting location with a narrow steel structure being made next to the paint shop and extending the rest of the way to the north. What appears to be bridge crane rails are being installed over the wider span towards the battery cell structure.
- The south end of the general assembly structure steel work is rapidly nearing completion … perhaps one more full day of work and the basic steel structure may be completed! Another huge milestone when that happens!
- On the east side, I was told by a on-site contractor that work on the cathode plant should be resuming soon. We take a close look at the foundation area and the staged equipment that is temporarily parked there.
