BMW X3, recently facelifted vs Audi Q5, also updated and now also coming as Sportback variant, Porsche Macan - facelifted too, vs Mercedes GLC - and the challengers of the Germans, Volvo XC60 and Genesis GV70. What’s the best premium mid-size SUV? Let’s find out more about the unique features. The Mercedes GLC still represents a sweet spot in their model portfolio as for luxury and comfort while not being too long. The BMW X3 offers a very good allrounder package and is especially popular in the US, where it is also built in Spartanburg. The facelift also brought new perforated sensatec seats and it uses the best BMW infotainment system in my opinion, BMW OS7 - and not the newest OS8 which is harder to control. The X3 offers the best driving fun while still being comfortable. Only the Porsche Macan is sportier, but also loses some comfort alongside. Also, the BMW X3 offers the great BMW 6-cylinder engine, sporty and efficient. Yeah you see where this is going for me, the BMW X3 is indeed my favorite. However they all come close for sure, so you should also compare prices. The Porsche Macan is too expensive in my opinion. The Audi Q5 has the best AC unit control, yes that can also be important. The Q5 also offers a good allrounder package. The lack of animal skin alternatives is weak, though. The Volvo XC60 will soon for all engine options have that unique Android Automotive infotainment system which we couldn’t include in this review yet, but we’ve seen it already in other Volvo models - that’s a new competitive feature. New to the comparison is for sure the Genesis GV70. It also offers a very good package and can easily keep up with build quality and also performs well in driving. Just the suspension is better with the Germans, but the Genesis GV70 definitely now belongs to this elite premium SUV group. If you get the clearly best price for one of the models, surely go for it. None of these premium mid-size SUVs are bad vehicles. For me, the best mix of driving fun, usability and comfort is with the X3. What do you think and what’s your favorite?
