Whether it be a raider in a post-apocalyptic Mad Max style scenario or an assassin or demon hunter in DnD or some other fantasy world, wristbows are pretty popular in fictional media. How practical would they be in real life?

The direct comparison is of course some kind of pistol crossbow, and fairly compact designs existed already in the Middle Ages and Renaissance. A wrist-mounted version however comes with some additional challenge... Let's put on the over-thinking goggles and take a closer look.
